Where Can Women Feel Safe?

The lives and safety of women worldwide are constantly in danger, even in places where they shouldn’t be.

According to YouGovAmerica, women are “considerably more likely than men to say that they ‘always’ or ‘often’ feel unsafe participating in everyday activities like taking the bus alone, going on a first date, and exercising outdoors.”

This lack of safety has been heavily intensified as Roe v. Wade has been overturned, stripping women of the right to have safe abortions in the United States. This overturning created a sense of disregard for women and the rights to their bodies.

Following the overturn of Roe v. Wade, citizens, especially women, felt unheard. Their wishes were for the right to safe abortion to remain in place, which was taken away by politicians who are supposed to represent the citizens of this nation.

Social media is putting on display just how unsafe women really are.

Recently in Rio de Janeiro, a pregnant woman was orally raped by an anesthetist while sedated during a c-section. Medical professionals in a hospital setting are there to assist patients when they’re at their most vulnerable and shouldn’t take advantage of that vulnerability.

Women’s lack of safety continues to be displayed with the increased use of social media and the Internet. Every incident of women being violated, disregarded, or disrespected isn’t being posted to social media so imagine just how many stories haven’t been heard. Women deserve to feel safe regardless of what setting they’re in.
