Welcome or welcome back to Kodak’s Corner, Cierra Lemott’s corner of the internet.
My name is Cierra Lemott and I am the creator of Kodak’s Camera.
It has definitely been a minute, but we’re back! I haven’t posted to this blog since June 2022 and it’s long overdue, but better late than never.
The hiatus I took was completely unintentional, but I believe everything happens the way that it’s supposed to and for reasons we may not understand. In order to give this blog the love and care it deserves, I had to take a step back, get some things in my life in order and find a greater appreciation for my little corner of the internet.
I’ve had moments when I wanted to come back to this platform I’ve created but simply wasn’t in the proper headspace. The last thing I want for Kodak’s Corner, something I love and built from the ground up, is to dread making and posting content, and for it to feel like a chore. Though this blog started as a class project, it became more than that to me. This is my platform and outlet, my corner of the internet where what I have to say matters.
During the time that I was gone, I worked on bettering myself, as I continue to do now. I finished my Bachelor of Arts degree at Columbia College Chicago in December 2023, which is one of my biggest accomplishments to date.
I studied journalism as a major with minors in photography and social media & digital strategy. I also moved into my first apartment on my own, another huge accomplishment (especially in this economy). I’ve spent my time since graduating working in various roles ranging from communications to retail and customer service. I’ve also created an online portfolio for my photography, Kodak’s Camera. At the end of the day, my purpose on this planet is to help others and as long as I’m able to fulfill that, I’m content.
I’ve been taking a break from writing since January 2025. That’s the first time I’ve taken a step away since I became a journalist in 2017. This is my first time writing since then and I can’t deny how amazing it feels to get my thoughts out where I can see them. Of course, lots of other things transpired during my break, but we’ll get more caught up in future uploads.
This blog is so crucial and important as it is a place where voices are uplifted and not torn down. We see with all too many platforms that people are being destructive toward one another and lacking empathy, but this blog is here to serve as a safe haven and amplifier of underrepresented stories. We need more things that emphasize the beauty of life and the world and I’ll do my part to be exactly that.
I’ll be posting bi-weekly moving forward. We’ll have some new series, including artist spotlights, photo essays, behind-the-scenes content and more, so stay tuned for all the upcoming content I’ll be rolling out. I’m also completely open to ideas for content you may have, so don’t forget to comment down below and tell me what you want to see.
